about
The first international conference in Russia about OpenRAN open architecture. OpenRAN is a key global trend in the development of telecommunication solutions for mobile networks. Two drivers of this movement in Russia — MTS and Skoltech — have united to hold OpenRAN Russia 2021.
Overview of the development of the national and international OpenRAN ecosystem from MTS and Skoltech
Trends from major open architecture associations
Experience in developing OpenRAN solutions from leading national and international vendors
5G Demo Zone: Networking Opportunities for B2C and B2B
Our partnership with Skoltech has delivered results: in less than two years we have become the first Russian team to implement the OpenRAN concept in a deployable prototype solution. Thanks to a flexible and open architecture, the MTS team can build an optimally-configured network while ensuring the seamless integration of all components. These encouraging results reaffirm our decision in selecting the OpenRAN approach, which, when developed further, will encourage the emergence and adoption of Russian-made telecom solutions, while ensuring robust competition and further supporting a diverse global supply chain of high-tech vendors.
Victor Belov
CTO of MTS
Telecom operators were the key drivers behind the global OpenRAN concept. Thanks to the open architecture, operators are reclaiming their freedom to choose optimal solutions when building networks. That's exactly why the OpenRAN concept is rapidly evolving as a global international project supported by diverse players and even rivals. A consistent advocate of the open architecture in Russia, MTS supported Skoltech's OpenRAN R&D efforts at a very early stage.
Dmitry Lakontsev
Head of Skoltech-based NTI Center of Excellence in Wireless & IoT
OpenRAN Russia 2021 will take place at Skoltech — a globally renowned Russian institute (top-100 Nature Index Young Universities) with a stunning new campus.

In the framework of the development of cutting-edge research in wireless technology, MTS and Skoltech has launched 5G pilot zone in Skolkovo and has already tested Russia's first OpenRAN-based 5G telecom solution.
